Album Covers - 2 - Motorhead - March or Die

This is the album cover for the 1992 Motorhead album entitled "March or Die". personally this is in my top five albums of all time, the music is fantastic and definitely Motorhead being at their best. The cover is so aggressive and perfectly portrays Motorheads attitude and outlook on how they viewed everything in their lives, especially lead singer and bassist, Lemmy Kilmister (R.I.P). Such as Iron Maiden have Eddie the Head as their iconic mascot, Motorhead have Snaggletooth. Snaggletooth is the half pig half man creature seen on almost every album cover apart from the iconic "Ace of Spades" album cover. This mascot represents Motorhead perfectly as has the skull of a man with the teeth of a beast representing the nasty and sometimes ruthless attitude Motorhead possessed before breaking up in 2015 due the death of Lemmy.

The use of the horns/tusks protruding from the skulls jaw looks very gritty and intimidating if you will, this compliments the crossbones underneath the skull as crossbones are known universally as a sign of death or danger. However in contrast to this the ribbon lay over the crossbones make the piece very abstract and bring a sort of professional presence to the album cover. Lemmy had a keen interest in World War 2 memorabilia, especially German memorabilia as it did always look the smartest because of the people who designed them, people and companies like Hugo Boss and Emporio Armani (Italy).

The standard black and white colour scheme looks very effective and block. Black and white always work well and are very prominent colours in Motorhead artwork. One thing I love about this album cover is the tiny splash of blood red on the eyes of the creature, it adds a massive contrast to the other two block colours , it also connotes the feel of the animal being bloodthirsty and wanting to kill or hurt something.
