Marcelo Vasco Links To Francisco Goya

The iconic painting of "Saturn Devouring His Sons" painted by Francisco Goya in the 1700s before being deemed enemy of the state for his paintings by the Spanish inquisition, is a huge influence on the work of Marcelo Vasco on the 16th studio album by Slayer, Repentless. Here is the painting next to the Repentless album cover.





It is evident why I have this opinion on Vasco being heavily influenced by the work of Francisco Goya on his piece. Both faces on the images of Saturn and Jesus look heavily distorted and abnormal, in turn, connoting the abstract style that Slayer have always had throughout their on-going career. Slayers lyrics highlight some adult themes as they are one of the biggest thrash metal bands of all time. They are closely similar to a band called "Death". They are also notorious for their obscene and sometimes disturbing album covers. One such album cover is on the album "Leprosy". 
The album includes songs such as "Pull the Plug" "Leprosy" and "Born Dead" the album cover also perfectly highlights what the album title is implying because the cover has a man infected with leprosy from thousands of years ago in the old white linen robes they would wear, the infected would have to live with other lepers in seclusion away from the healthy people to stop the disease spreading. Edward Repka is a renouned american artist born in 1960 is  known as "The King of Thrash Metal Art" due to creating big and successful album covers for huge thrash metal bands such as Megadeth. "Ed" as he prefers to be called created Megadeths mascot "Vic Rattlehead" here is a picture of the first Vic Rattledhead album covers for Megadeth. 










 
The skeleton looking character is the ongoing mascot that Megadeth have used throughout their years. The above albums are Megadeths early albums, their debut album being "Killing is my business" and "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying" as well as Vic appearing in the later albums like "Rust in Peace" and the latest album "Dystopia" (2016).

    Opening sentence needs restructuring, I will chat to you in class a little more Dan so we can get it all sorted.
    Information on Goya needs more focus.

Close Album Cover Analysis - Slayer - Repentless

This album cover is very close to me as the first concert I ever attended was a Slayer one on the "Repentless" tour in the September of 2015. There is so much to this album cover however it could be deemed as offensive to some older, old fashioned or more religious audiences due to the graphic nature of Jesus being grievously tortured. This is Slayers sixteenth studio album released on the eleventh of September 2015. Firstly I am going to talk about the huge circle with the swords cutting through it making a pentagram or satanic star in the background. Intertextuality - Drake

Intertextuality The definition of intertexuality is shaping a texts meaning to something else. In my own words I would say intertexuality means interpreting a text into something else. In this case I will be analysing the amount of intertexuality in music videos and see how they compare and contrast to other videos that possibly may have inspired them greatly or took great influences off. This may contain the audio and how the music sounds compared to a song that is very similar. It may also entail how the video is shot depending on what angles the shots are taken from, they may have similar narratives to other videos that they may have took inspiration from.
