Intertextuality - Rihanna

Image
Intertextuality - Rihanna In 2016 on April the 29th Rihanna released a video featuring Calvin Harris entitled "This is what you came for".  This song has became very popular since its release and is a known club anthem and has over 1.8 billions views on youtube and over 6 million likes. The song has a very aesthetic music video which has Rihanna in a large cube that is constantly changing colours from bright greens yellows and light blues, all the colours you would assosciate with seeing in a night club. The video has a very prominent theme of star to fan cohesion, in the video Rihanna addresses the audience as the back of the cube falls down and she walks through onto the stage and to address her audience and begin her show. This is a still I have taken from the video from YouTube. This still allows me to interpret the text and narrative in my own way as I believe that the whole cube changing colour idea may reflect Rihanna's emotions that she may be trying...

Intertextuality - Drake

Image
Intertextuality The definition of intertexuality is shaping a texts meaning to something else. In my own words I would say intertexuality means interpreting a text into something else. In this case I will be analysing the amount of intertexuality in music videos and see how they compare and contrast to other videos that possibly may have inspired them greatly or took great influences off. This may contain the audio and how the music sounds compared to a song that is very similar. It may also entail how the video is shot depending on what angles the shots are taken from, they may have similar narratives to other videos that they may have took inspiration from. Intertextuality has become quite common and sometimes lead to legal cases of bands and artists suing other bands or artists on copyright grounds due to copying or stealing of material such as songs graphics and general ideas that they may have used as an influence and the original artist may have taken ...

Corrections Needed on Carol Vernalis Theory and John Lewis Advert Analysis

Image
These corrections will be put in order by the 5th of November so I can continue with my editing on our music video in Group C for our cover of Rock n Roll star. Also i will post my work on intertexuality in music videos.

Carol Vernalis Theory

Image
Carol Vernallis' theory is based around four key concepts to all of her work on how music videos are made and structured. These four concepts are : - Narrative - Editing - Camera Movement - Diegesis She applies these concepts and studies to music videos and breaks them apart to analyse them to prove her theory correct. In this post i will do the same and break down and analyse the music video to the hit Oasis song, Supersonic. This particular Oasis song has probably the most editing in an Oasis music video along with Champagne Supernova with the good idea of all of the spirals in the background as Liam Gallagher is sat on the a chair singing straight to the camera with the green screen behind him. Supersonic is one of Oasis' top and most loved songs by their audiences and varied audiences overall. The video starts on a shot of Liam walking through a puddle however the shot is upside down. This is a perfect use of camera movement and it follows Liams shoes walking...

Website or Avert Analysis

Image
As it is getting up to the Christmas time of year, i chose the John Lewis Christmas advert from last year to analyse for this task instead of a website as i find it more interesting taking apart an advert and finding out why certain dramatic techniques are put into place and how they are beneficial in media terms and in business terms, or in this case how the adverts are beneficial to the sales John Lewis obtains around the Christmas season. The John Lewis advert from 2016 was a very iconic ad. Every John Lewis advert is heavily studied and spent upon every year without fail, it is hugely thought about all year round by a group of producers and writers. The ad is designed to play on the heart strings of the intended audience and have some sort of sentimental value to it. In my eyes, the advert is conveying the problem of elderly people being alone at Christmas, a very saddening subject for everyone. Statistically, 1.7 million people in the United Kingdom over the age of seventy five ...

Marcelo Vasco Links To Francisco Goya

Image
The iconic painting of "Saturn Devouring His Sons" painted by Francisco Goya in the 1700s before being deemed enemy of the state for his paintings by the Spanish inquisition, is a huge influence on the work of Marcelo Vasco on the 16th studio album by Slayer, Repentless. Here is the painting next to the Repentless album cover. It is evident why I have this opinion on Vasco being heavily influenced by the work of Francisco Goya on his piece. Both faces on the images of Saturn and Jesus look heavily distorted and abnormal, in turn, connoting the abstract style that Slayer have always had throughout their on-going career. Slayers lyrics highlight some adult themes as they are one of the biggest thrash metal bands of all time. They are closely similar to a band called "Death". They are also notorious for their obscene and sometimes disturbing album covers. One such album cover is on the album "Leprosy".  The album includes songs such as ...
